Mission & Goal
“There are only two lasting gifts we can give to our children, one is roots, the other is wings.”
Reach Out To Youth has continuously inspired Learning, Living and Mentoring:“See It, Do It, Teach It!”
This annual program brings Detroit students — ages 7 to 11 — to the Wayne State University School of Medicine to learn about basic health care and nutrition, spark interest in science and medicine, boost self-esteem and explore careers in the field. Approximately 300 students and 100 parents participate each year, with medical students and faculty members volunteering as tour guides, workshop leaders and presenters.
The Black Medical Association at the Wayne State University School of Medicine will present the 30th annual Reach Out to Youth Program at the university in 2020.
Wayne State University’s chapter of the Student National Medical Association proudly hosted its 30th annual Reach Out to Youth event on Saturday, November 21st, 2020 from 8am-12pm. Our theme this year was “Power of Vision”. This program targeted students underrepresented in the fields of science and medicine; specifically, those of African American, Latin American, and Native American descent.
Our mission is to introduce children, ages 7 to 11 to careers in the medical arts and sciences. Our program continues to be free of charge for all attendees. We believe it is our vital responsibility to "reach one and teach one" from our community and we encourage you to take advantage of this excellent opportunity. It is our hope that Reach out to Youth plays a pivotal role in every child who dreams of becoming a doctor one day. The first 200 registered students received a doctor box mailed to their homes for participation in the event.
